Mobile phone use will be banned in 20 secondary schools in South Australia from the start of term one. All schools will be forced to implement the ban before the end of the second term.
In this context, it is reported that there are already schools with mobile phone bans in place such as Seaview High School in South Adelaide which is one of those already using the ban.
The school also provided all 1,300 students with a lockable lead-lined bag, in which they put their phones, which are locked during school hours, as they can only be opened after the last bell at the school's outer borders.
Other schools that choose not to use lockable bags require their students to turn off the phone or put it on flight mode, leaving it out of the way in lockers or bags.
